part 1 . part 2 . part 3

December 2009

starting in alice springs we travelled north to tennant creek stopping at devils marbles and then east to mount isa stopping for the sunset at the border of the northern territory and queensland.the next day we detour south to boulia via dirt road (to get a bit of the plenty highway experience in we missed due to flooding) and east across the incredible vistas of the min min highway to winton. From there south east through longreach to a flat plain with 360deg horizons, a storm front sunset and a night time peek at the edge of a huge storm that tore up south east queensland.

onward we drive into the morning sun tracking south east through burnt out country, hills, forests and small communities to an eccentric pub at cracow. Then on through a powering storm, all night along winding country roads to see the sunrise from the blackall range between montville and maleny down to the pacific ocean.

it concludes with a hand held experiment on the beach at coolum. diving in that ocean was an beautiful experience.

centre to sea is accompanied by a hauntingly beautiful and original soundtrack specially written by the talented australian composer anthea eadan. The soundscape it offers up merges into the visuals, giving the land emotion and story to create an engrossing experience.

chasing us the whole way was ex tropical cyclone laurence creating awesome skies, clouds and storms. This part of Australia’s story shows it is a land of sweeping plains, fires and floods from the famous poem by Dorothea Mackellar
